MIGRAIN: Audience Theory 2

1. Media is not entirely responsible for anti-social behaviour and violence. Over time, more and more people, particularly children and teenagers, have become more and more dependent on media, it is becoming a natural part of our everyday life. Even though media allows people to connect with each other, enjoy common interests and overall make some aspects of our life, there is no denying that some media can influence a person's socialness as well as possibly incite violent behaviour. Some people may agree with this due to the increasing realistic quality of media that more and more people have become addicted and as a result anti-social, however, at the same time, some people use media to escape their harsh reality as it may provide escapism for them and just give them time to forget about their life.

2. Yes, as if a child sees someone do tasks repeatedly, they are more likely to mimic these acts as they become more reinforced in the child's mind.

3. The Tide Pod challenge from back in 2013 which revolved around people eating tripods and posting these videos on the internet. This is mainly the media's fault as they allowed the videos to spread until it became a moral panic.

4. Online Child Safety, Digital privacy and cyber security

5. No as more and more people have become less needing of magazines, newspapers etc. and more people are relying on the internet to gain information. Not only this, but people are also circumventing the regulations made to keep people safe.

6. The internet is creating a fearful environment as more and more people are making places intended for connecting a place where people can be victimised and bullied for trying to be them.

1. Yes, I play violent games and I'm not violent in real life, yes and no

2. Direct effect theories, diffusion theories. indirect effect theory, the pluralist approach.

3. Child's play: The murder of Jamie Bulger, Marilyn Manson: The Columbine High School shootings, Natural Born Killers: a number of murders committed by romantically linked couples.

4. A high school shooting happened on the 20th of April 1999. 12 students and 1 teacher where murdered and 21 people were injured. Due to the shooting, lots of copycat shootings were inspired by this. It was originally meant to be a bombing then shooting but due to a failed detonation attempt, it ended up being a shooting.

5. The access and acceptance of guns, teenagers who were isolated and were never able to fit in and the viewing of a range of violent images.

6. Viewing a singular piece of text has a small effect on a person's wellbeing, but repeated viewing of certain images or ideas has a more longstanding effect on the person as they believe that its normal to view what they've seen.

7. Violence is only good when there is a justifiable cause, otherwise it's a problem.

8. The mass audience are assumed to be led on easily and unaware of the difference between right and wrong. The intelligence and overall nature of a person is not taken into account for.

9. Love thy Neighbour may appear as racist and offensive to the modern-day viewer. As times have changed, so have people's views on what is seen as funny, which is why what as seen as funny in Love thy Neighbour is no longer seen as that.

10. The Guardian and The Sun
