MIGRAIN: Audience theory 1

The Hypodermic Needle Model

1. The article links to the hypodermic needle model as it basically says that those who play violent video games just absorb the violence and the brutality of it and act upon it.

2. The front page mentions unnecessary information such as the mother of the child being a single mother. This may make people believe that the child paralysed the phone giant due to "neglect" because he is the child of a single mother.

3. Audiences don't believe everything in the media, however what they do believe can be influenced by external factors i.e., currents trends, peers, family, social groups.

Two-step flow model

1. How badly someone influenced by the media is dependent on social leaders' views and opinions on that media. A social leader is someone who mediates how the audience react to media.

2. She is a well-known celebrity who makes opinions on specific media content, which makes her an opinion leader. Not only this, she also has a large following, meaning they are more likely to agree with what she has to say.

3. It's still relevant as with the rise of social media, more and more people are becoming social leaders and more people are following what has been said to said i.e. Andrew Tate and his large following. This is especially true as sometimes, if something is repeated to a person enough times, they eventually end up believing it.

Uses and Gratifications

Diversion: The Boys as it is a good drama where everything is authentic and based on realism.
Personal Relationships: Call of Duty videogame series as it allows for the players to develop emotional connections with characters as they watch cutscenes and listen to in-game dialogue.
Personal Identity: Horimiya as it replicates in school scenarios such as final exams, school friendships and romance as well as leaving for the next stage in their life, which school students such as I can relate to as I remain in this phase in my life.
Surveillance: Blue Planet as it informs me of the current state of the seas.

Dependency Theory

1. Yes people have become more dependent on social media as technology keeps advancing more and more in the world. This has caused people to become more reliant on social media for basic everyday needs. As a result, we as people now need technology more than every due to how it helps us as people advance.

2. People rely more and more on digital technology as is the truth since the first iPhone released 15 years ago.

3. I find it both positive and negative as although it provides me with a way out when I'm bored and helps me do work, it can also distract me from my work.
