2. Icons are important as they are physical representations of the signified and indexes show proof of what is being represented, which is why you need icons alongside indexes in media texts.

3. As symbols have no resemblance to between the signifier and the signified, they must be culturally learned. Global companies would avoid using symbols as it would harder for those who aren't of that culture to use.
